  • McDonald's instructs CAPA to audit more than 1,200 sites

McDonald's has appointed CAPA to carry out a full property and accounts payable audit on around 1,250 of the restaurant chain's properties.

The property audit will involve CAPA undertaking a forensic analysis of property outgoings and data on invoices owed to McDonald's, as well as amounts owed to creditors.

CAPA’s auditors will now use bespoke software to uncover multiple elements such as errors in utility bills, or overspend by the company on various payments. This in turn will help generate cash across more than 1,200 McDonald's sites.

McDonald's has also given CAPA a management role to advise on all service charge issues, and to approve all payments.

The team will inspect service charges to discover any overspend buried in the information, before recovering it for the franchises.

In the UK, where McDonald's employs 97,000 people, around 1,250 restaurants serve about three million people every day. As a franchising organisation, around 70 percent of the UK restaurants are owned and operated by local businessmen and women.

  • CAPA given role in Austin Reed administration

CAPA has been instructed to carry out a full property and accounts payable audit on Austin Reed, the fashion chain in administration.

Alix Partners, the corporate restructuring and turnaround specialist, was appointed as administrators to Austin Reed in April 2016.

CAPA has now been instructed to audit various property costs and invoice data across 100 stores of the fashion chain.

This will involve a forensic analysis of Austin Reed’s vast property outgoings and data on invoices owed to the retailer.

CAPA’s auditors will use bespoke software to uncover multiple elements such as errors in utility bills, or ‘overspend’ by the companies on various payments. This in turn will help generate cash to pay Austin Reed's creditors.

Update: The Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group acquired the Austin Reed brand and five concessions in May 2016. The group now plans to open 50 Austin Reed stores by early 2018, including a London flagship.

  • BLUE INC (UK) LTD

CAPA called in for lease talks on 160 Blue Inc stores

CAPA has been instructed to negotiate new lease terms with landlords of 160 stores run by A Levy & Son, the fashion chain owned by clothing retailer Blue Inc.

A Levy & Son was placed into administration in January 2016 to undergo a corporate restructuring process. Neil Bennett and Alex Cadwallader of Leonard Curtis Business Solutions Group were appointed as administrators.

Blue Inc had owned A Levy & Son before putting it into administration and later buying back some of the stores.

CAPA has now been engaged to negotiate new lease terms with landlords of the 160 A Levy & Sons stores. CAPA’s expert Property team will now look to secure lower rents and shorter leases throughout the portfolio of stores.

The Property team has worked on lease restructuring negotiations on many large retailers across the UK for the past 13 years. Negotiations with landlords have been conducted with firms such as Bonmarchè, which has undergone a turnaround process.
