The liquidators of a pioneering engineering firm that operated globally have instructed CAPA to conduct audits on all sites the business traded from.

RSM UK Restructuring Advisory, the corporate insolvency and restructuring firm, has appointed CAPA to undertake rates audits on Western Thermal, which specialised in thermal installation for more than 35 years until its liquidation.

Western Thermal had around 100 employees in recent years and worked as lead contractors with some of the UK’s largest construction companies.

The business had been contracted to provide services on landmark projects such as Wembley Stadium, Heathrow Terminal 5 and One Hyde Park – home to one of the world’s most expensive postcodes.

The engineering specialist had also completed major works in recent years in the Middle East and across continental Europe.

But after severe financial issues impacted the company up to and during the pandemic, it entered insolvency. James Dowers and Mark Wilson of RSM Restructuring Advisory were appointed as liquidators.

They have recently instructed CAPA which means CAPA’s Audit team will be brought in to conduct a forensic investigation of data on rates paid to local authorities across six sites Western Thermal operated from nationwide.

The team will use bespoke software to detect anomalies or errors, before recovering any overpaid sums for the creditors, on a no-win no-fee basis.
