This month the Turnaround, Restucturing & Insolvency (TRI) Awards marked its 10th anniversary and as headline sponsor, CAPA was there to celebrate with those at the peak of their profession.

For a decade the TRI Awards has recognised the exceptional firms, teams and individuals operating across turnaround, corporate restructuring, corporate insolvency and the funding of business recovery.

An independent awards panel, comprising the two largest regulators in this profession - the ICAEW and the IPA - along with the Insolvency Service chairman, a range of insolvency practitioners, lawyers, lenders and funders, all debate and decide on the winners each year.

On Wednesday October 18, the winners they voted for were all revealed at a ceremony at the London Hilton, Park Lane.

The awards, headline sponsored by CAPA for the best part of the last decade, highlighted those who have shown skill, innovation, ingenuity and know-how while restoring companies to a sustainable position.

Tony Sweeney, director and co-founder of CAPA, said: "We are very privileged to be the main sponsors of the TRI awards for this, the 10th anniversary of this event, and for the past nine years since its inauguration.

This special evening is not only a celebration of achievements for many of our clients over the year. It's important because it's a chance for everyone working in the turnaround industry to have a great evening together and enjoy a fun-packed bash and let their hair down.

We would like to thank all our clients for their continued support for 2017, and for the past 10 years, and wish them well over the coming end of year celebrations."

Big winners on the night included Grant Thornton, Menzies, KPMG and PwC, as well as Kirsty Emery of DLA Piper for the Rising Star Award.

The first award, a special judges award given out to an individual who has made a lasting, positive impact on the profession, was presented to Shay Bannon, national head of business restructuring at BDO. Bannon was honoured with the Nick Sabin Award for outstanding contribution to the industry.

Tony Lomas, chairman of UK business recovery services at PwC, paid tribute to Bannon in a speech before presenting the award to him. Bannon was given a standing ovation on the night.

To mark the awards programme's anniversary, 10 awards were given to the deal partners responsible for the most notable turnaround cases of the last decade.

The Turnaround of the Decade Awards, a selection put together by the TRI Awards organisers Credit Strategy with the help of a turnaround steering group, were given to:

* Endless for Karro Food Group; * Alteri Investors for Versandhaus Walz; * Greybull Capital for Tata Steel in Europe/British Steel; * RCapital for Tie Rack/Rolling Luggage;   * Hilco for HMV; * Better Capital for the turnaround of Gardner Aerospace; * Rutland Partners for Attends Healthcare Products; * Sun Capital for Bonmarché; * H2 Equity Partners for Eurocell; * Oaktree for Fitness First.

During the TRI Awards ceremony night guests from across the industry raised more than £20,000 for Childline, a free 24-hour counselling service for children and young people in the UK.

Guests were also entertained during the awards by host Colin Murray, presenter of Radio 5Live’s Fighting Talk and Channel 5’s football programmes.
